The following is a page 8 item in the 31 Oct 1918 Simcoe Reformer

Charles Stipe of Delhi has been killed in action in France. This is the final word received by his father, Fred Stipe.

When the Delhi branch of the 133rd Battalion was being formed, Charles gave up his position in the Bank of Hamilton and enlisted as a private.

He was in training in Canada longer than he wished to be on account of his health.

He experienced many months of hard fighting.

In the banner years of baseball in Delhi, Charles was one of the nine -- a good all-round ball player. He was also a hockeyist.

He is mourned by his father, two sisters and one brother.
