The following is from page 9 of the 16 Nov 1916 Simcoe Reformer.

Pte. E. Harter of the 9th Battalion is reported as having been wounded in action on October 8th. Another member of the 58th wrote that he had seen Harter wounded and this came to the ears of Mrs. Harter, who had had no word of it. She thereupon wrote to Ottawa. No word had been received there but an investigation was promised, with the above result. There are no details as to the character of the wounds.

 

The following is from page 1 of the 5 Jul 1917 Simcoe Reformer.

Norfolk Casualties

Pte. Edward [sic] Harter of Simcoe, reported missing last October, now returned as "Believed to be dead."
