One of Five Soldier Sons Is Missing

Flight Lieut. John Sandfield Macdonald Browne of
94 Lyndhurst avenue, Toronto, one of the five sons in [khaki] of Mr. W. B. Browne, flour exporter, has been missing since 27 Jun when he made a flight over the German line in France, according to a cablegram received by his father.

Lieut. Browne, who is a scout pilot, is 19 years of age, and was a pupil at the Central Technical School, Toronto, when he enlisted in the Royal Air Service.

He trained at Leaside, Toronto, and after getting his wings was engaged for some time in training United States flying cadets..

He went overseas in January, and had been at the front less than two weeks.

Two brothers are overseas as pilots in the R.A.F., namely William Gordon Browne and [Lamfere Morrel] ("Clerk") Browne, while two other brothers, Russell and C. M. ("Jack") were with the first Canadian Contingent, the latter going overseas a second time with the 133rd.

The missing soldier was born in Simcoe and the family has numerous friends here to share the anxiety and pray that news of his safety may soon be forthcoming.
