Items of Local Interest

Mrs. Michael McMahon, died Friday, Mar. 15 at the home of her son in Windham Township, at the advanced age of 93 years. Deceased was born Winifred Jordan, and was the last of elder members of that family. The funeral took place on Monday, Mar. 18, to St. Mary's Church, LaSalette, at which Rev. Father Goetz of Tillsonburg officiated. Two sons, Edward and John, both of Windham, survive.

Miss Matilda Wells, eldest surviving daughter of the late Lyman Wells, L.D.S., died at her home, Colborne Street, Simcoe, on Tuesday morning. The only member of her family now surviving is her youngest sister, Miss Margaret Wells. Others who predeceased her were Mrs. Hiram Steinhoff; Gilbert, former bailiff of the Division Court; His Honour Judge Wells of Welland, and Miss Florence Wells. The funeral of Miss Matilda Wells takes place this afternoon to Oakwood.

Returned soldiers who have arrived home in the past few days include: 
J. A. Larson of Houghton, W.J. Morris of St. Williams, R. C. Casey of Simcoe, Mark Rabbits of Simcoe, Bert Blume of Simcoe, and 
William Culver of Sault Ste. Marie, formerly of Woodhouse.

Miss Wilda Davis of Woodstock is visiting her aunt, Mrs. F. W. Burgess, Maple St.

Jehiel Milliard, the Tillsonburg popcorn vendor who shot at W. Hearn, a lad, on Main Street last Saturday evening, has been fined $10 plus costs for carrying a firearm.

Mrs. Mary Reardon received a suspended sentence for not sending a child under 14 to school. Albert Ryan received a suspended sentence for driving a team of horses on the sidewalk.

Ross Burnham and family of near Delhi are leaving for their new home in Mortlach, Sask.

Archie Piett, John Churchill, and James Brock of the firm West & Peachey, left Friday for St. Gabriel, P.Q., to set up an alligator warping tug for the Ste. Maurice Paper Co.
