Impressive
Farewell to Middleton Men
Courtland,
Oct. 11 -- The evening of Friday, Oct. 6th will be long remembered by
many in Middleton, especially by those who have relatives and friends in
Norfolk's Own, the 133rd Battalion, which leaves soon for overseas, it
being the night of a public farewell to them in the township hall here.
A
short program was given, after which lunch was served by the
ladies.
Mr. J. T.
Simmons acted as chairman and addresses were given by Rev. Mr. Trueblood
of Courtland, Rev. H. D. Moore of Eden, Mr. Alva Wilkinson, whose son
Will is at the front, and Ward, another son, is going with the 133rd,
Lieut. Dick, and Sergts. McQueen and Pratt.
Solos
were sung by Miss Ethel Wilkinson, Miss Marie Logan and Rev. Mr.
Trueblood.
Messrs.
Kitchen, Ashford and May favored the audience with several instrumental
selections.
During the
evening an address was read by the chairman and fountain pens were
presented to the boys by Misses Sadie Logan and Annie Sherman.
The
meeting broke up with three cheers for the boys in uniform and the
singing for the National Anthem.
