Good S.O.E. Concert

Large Crowd at Armories on Tuesday for
Patriotic Entertainment

That patriotic enthusiasm has not abated in Simcoe was abundantly demonstrated on Tuesday night when the Sons of England concert was held in the armories.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1200 people turned out to witness the presentation of a varied and interesting program of songs, choruses and physical drills.

The spacious new armories looked well, the decorations being prettily carried out with flags, bunting and pictures of historical characters. A chorus of 75 voices under the leadership of P. Geo. Marshall, L.A.B., and Fred Pursel's augmented orchestra, occupied the large stage erected under the eve of the gallery for the occasion.

The receipts from the concert will be around $300 and the expenses probably $100, the balance to go to the Daughters of the Empire for their patriotic fund to be used in caring for the wives and families of the [WWI] volunteers from Norfolk County.

The 39th Regimental Band, under the leadership of Lieut. John Sutton, was ... present, and rendered patriotic selections at the opening.

The orchestra was made up of the following artists:
Conductor Fred R. Pursel, drums and traps;
violin Mrs. H. K. Gibson
