The adjourned
annual meeting of the Simcoe Board of Trade was held in the Town Council
Hall on Monday evening. The president, Mr. George Williamson, was in the
chair, and some thirty-five members were in attendance. It was decided
to continue membership in the Association of Ontario Boards of Trade,
and the secretary was instructed to remit the annual fee of sixteen
dollars.
Mr. McKiee,
chairman of the special committee appointed on the matter of bylaws and
regulations, reported that the committee, composed of himself and J. B.
Jackson, H. P. Innes, and H. B. Donly, had met and gone carefully over
the bylaws of a number of Boards. A copy of the bylaws on the Simcoe
Board of 1889 had also turned up and been carefully studied. It was the
unanimous opinion of the committee that these last were in need of no
alteration, and the committee's recommendation was that they be accepted
as in force and be taken at the regulations of the present organization.
A resolution to adopt this report was after some discussion unanimously
adopted.
In compliance with
the statute and the bylaws of the Board, the office of treasurer was
abolished, the duties being incorporated with those of the secretary. On
motion, Mr. R. W. Wallace, who had been secretary, was elected a member
of the council to fill out that body to the number called for by the
bylaws.

The Council will in
future hold regular monthly meetings, and the who Board is to be called
together at least quarterly.
Although much good
work was done last year, the Council failed to keep in close touch with
the membership, and a great many, hearing and seeing very little of what
was going on, came to doubt the use of continuing their support.
The Council hopes
this year to guard against this mistake. There is much for an
enthusiastic Board of Trade to accomplish, and the present officers
intend to make every effort to leave a record of some useful
accomplishment. It is hoped that every member will send or hand his
fees, two dollars, to the secretary, without delay. An extensive scheme
of advertising the town is planned that will cost a lot of money. It is
to be hoped that every man in town will assist by becoming a member.
